Recently i bought a Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 521/16 (6x6 format) and noticed that there was a 5 pointed star (also called asterisk) behind the serial number on the body (see red arrow).
To perform a Windows 10 upgrade using VMware Fusion on a Mac, open Fusion and start the virtual machine. Vmware fusion 10 download. Note: You can only upgrade to Windows 10 for free if you're using a genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 OS.
I have read about that Star before but this was the first time i actually saw it on a camera.
This is a Contessa 35 (model 533/24), a compact folding 35mm rangefinder camera made in Stuttgart, Germany by Zeiss-Ikonbetween the years 1950 and 1955. The Contessa was designed as a premiere fixed lens compact folding camera that had the features and quality of the best of what Germany could offer at the time. Well they all had the same invoices forms and with the same type face and paper and serial number within 35 of each other, so I think the competitor was actually lying. One customer pressed the issue with the competitor and found out that he/she had not actually worked on the camera, it had been his/her grandson. Apr 27, 2013 I hope Bernt doesn't mind me piling into his thread too but his posting got me thinking of an Ikonta 521/16 I have that is a bit of a puzzle. So here is the puzzle for Hansz, the camera body has 521/16 embossed on the leather covering and a serial number of E893XX and a presentation plate attached to the back dated 17 September 1939. I inherited from my father a Zeiss Ikon 520/2 camera. I has the serial number 1187910. The lens is a Tessar 1:4.4 10.5 cm. Can anyone tell me more about it, like when it was produced and how much it cost then? Thanks, Andi Andreae 7:46AM, 16 August 2015 PDT.
Mr. Bernd K.Otto writes about that Star in part 2 of his article 'Die Entwicklung der Ikonta/Super Ikonta'.

- The original Carl Zeiss Jena continued the pre-war serial numbers and yours does fit with this so your lens is a Carl Zeiss Jena lens made between 1945 and 1949 in East Germany. The other Carl Zeiss is Carl Zeiss Opton based in Oberkochen and the serial number would indicate a lens date of between 1961 and 1965 which is too late for a Super Ikonta.
- This is due to the fact that Zeiss-Ikon used a letter code preceding actual serial number of any particular Contax camera. This letter indicates the year that your Contax (and many other prewar Zeiss-Ikon cameras) was produced. Once you know the code it’s easy to date them at a glance.
You can find that Star on folders (yes, only on folders) which were produced by Zeiss Ikon in Stuttgart (Contessa Werk) in the first years (1945 to 1949) after the second world war AND were partly made of parts from pre May 1945 production which were still lying in storage.
Carl Zeiss Serial Numbers
btw The serial number starts with an 'O' . this indicates the production of the body somewhere between the years 1943 and 1945. However its Tessar lens has a red T on the name ring, indicating a lens with (early) coating. Coated lenses on cameras for the public appeared after WW2.
